Last week, I got an annual pass to Walt Disney World. they have pretty great discounts for people who live in Florida. The annual pass costs about the same amount as four days in the park, so I've already broken even.
Yesterday, I went to the Magic Kingdom for the first time, and on a whim I decided to ride the race car ride. (One of the nice things about having a pass is that it's no big deal to stand in a 40 minute line and read.) I decided to ride this one because I remembered riding it the first time I went to Disneyland (the ride is the same both places, as best I can tell). When I rode it that time, I hated it. It was boring, and I crashed my wheels into the center bar over and over and bumped the car ahead several times by accident, despite a rule against it. Yesterday, I thought, "I know how to drive a real car now, how hard could it be?"
I got in my car and buckled up, and hit the gas (it was a right hand drive car with left foot gas...why, I don't know). I zoomed out of the pit and around the first corner... as much as I could in the small lawnmower-engined car. I felt the wind in my face and thought, "This is cool!" It was just about then that my car took on a life of its own, veering to the left. I twisted the steering wheel hard right and the car veered to the right. Things went on like this for most of the track. I was unable to keep the car going straight on (or at the proper curve angle). Finally I thought I might be starting to get the hang of it, only to lose control again. Finally I rolled back into the pit, glad to be done with the monstrous machine. I did manage to do one thing better than my seven-year-old self. I didn't bump anyone!
Maybe I pass as a seven-year-old driver, but from now on, I'll stick with a grown-up car.
The perks of living in Florida, huh? I'm jealous!
